There is something effortlessly chic about pairing a simple shirt with skinny jeans, boots and a blazer. Add an accessory or two and you’re set! This combination just seems so easy to dress up or down by changing the top or accessories.

I took the chance to do some shopping and run errands on Thursday and wore this. Of course, Wednesday was a beautiful day and Thursday was filled with fog and rain. Thanks, universe. I was actually on a hunt for one particular item with no success.

Taking this set of pictures was kind of amusing. A truck pulled up next to me and after they turned off the engine, a woman was debating her boyfriend about what I was doing and what for. I expected them to open the door and ask, but after a minute or two I think they realized I could hear every word of their conversation and it got quiet.

Normally with people this close, I would pack up and leave. With the fog and rain, I wasn’t too excited about finding another spot and the rain was supposed to be moving in for the evening, so I stayed. I smiled for the camera with two people staring on. It took a lot of willpower to not burst with laughter because my normal self portrait process is a little silly. Usually when I take pictures I’m either alone or people are far away. As I was checking a set of shots, they got out and went for a walk without commenting.

This outfit is a mix of old and new pieces. The jeggings that you’ve seen before. The blazer, also seen in my last outfit post has actually been in my closet since summer but it was just too warm to wear it until the last few months. I’m surprised I haven’t managed to snap a picture of it until recently! Elle is a line carried at Kohl’s and you can also buy online. It has been an unexpected resource for me – both for basics and trendier items. Sometimes things can be a little pricey but the clearance racks are a goldmine!

The light pink top is from ASOS Curve that I bought early last year, before the blog. Most of what I bought didn’t fit well, or at all. Not surprising since they stop at a UK 26/US 22 but I thought I’d try a few clearance items to see for myself. I definitely won’t be ordering from them again until they extend their sizing. Which is a shame, since some of their pieces are fantastic and similar garments are not readily available elsewhere.

The most exciting part? The boots. See that heel? Yeah. I’m not sure what is up with my feet. Why after 15 years can I suddenly wear heels? Boots are probably a little easier to walk in but it still blows my mind. Just two years ago, I bought a pair of similar boots from Torrid. I wore them once and my brother about died from laughter when he saw me walking toward him. I’ve been told I walk “with purpose” and I guess the mincing steps I had to take in three inch heels were just too hilarious!

After several days of walking around the house and even cleaning in them, I figured they deserved to go for a test drive. They still need some breaking in but I’ll be doing a review later on. So far, they are amazing. I’ve been drooling over their boots for almost a year and when most styles retail for $200+, I figured it was worth the $6 bucks to try on, even better if they fit!

Lately I’ve been a little pre-occupied with getting ready to host a dinner party for family. What was a small, five person meal turned out being a nine person ordeal. Hosting dinner for nine seemed like an impossible feat with dinner service for four, four dining room chairs and a very, very small space. Plus all the people trying to “help” in the itty bitty kitchen? Insanity! But we made it work and survived. I don’t know how my mother has dealt with hosting family holidays for 25+ years. She enjoys it but it is so much work and added stress!

What are your favorite effortless outfits that you always feel great in?
